Interval Period

Important: You’ll receive email updates from us showing your current interval period for each product and if your repeat prescription is available.

The interval period is the set amount of time your prescriber or pharmacy requires between dispensing one supply of your medication and the next.

How it works in practice

Let’s say a patient has a prescription for 40g of flower per month with an interval period of 7 days.

  • Monthly allowance: 40g
  • Interval period set by prescriber: 7 days

This means the pharmacy can only dispense medication once every 7 days.

  • Week 1 (Day 1): Patient orders 10g.

They cannot order again until Day 8, even though they still have 30g remaining on their monthly allowance.

  • Week 2 (Day 8): Patient orders another 10g.
  • Week 3 (Day 15): Patient orders another 10g.
  • Week 4 (Day 22): Patient orders their final 10g.

By the end of the month, they have received the full 40g, but it was dispensed in 4 smaller amounts because of the 7-day interval rule.

  • If you try to fill a repeat earlier than your interval allows, the pharmacy system will show it as too soon and you’ll need to wait until the next eligible date.

Key points for patients Patient information

  • Your monthly limit and interval period are related but not the same:
  • Monthly limit = how much you can get in total per month.
  • Interval period = how soon you can get the next refill.
  • You’ll be emailed your next eligible refill date.
  • If your usage changes, speak with your doctor to adjust.
